Mommy Makeover in China: What's Included, What It Costs and How Recovery Really Works
You had the baby. Maybe two. Your body did something extraordinary — and then it changed in ways that diet and exercise simply do not reverse.
Your belly pouches forward even though you are back to your old weight. Your breasts sit lower and feel emptier than they used to. There is a pocket of fat on your waist that was not there before, no matter how many workouts you do. And every time you look it up, you get the same two answers: either a glossy before-and-after photo with no explanation, or a list of prices that tells you nothing about what recovery with a toddler actually looks like.
This article is the honest version. What a mommy makeover actually is, what it can and cannot fix, what it costs in China, and — the part almost nobody writes about — how you are supposed to recover when there is a small human who still wants to be picked up.
The 30-Second Answer
A mommy makeover is not one procedure. It is a combination of procedures, planned together, usually performed in a single operation — most commonly a tummy tuck, a breast procedure (lift, augmentation, or both), and liposuction of stubborn areas like the waist or thighs. The idea is simple: one operation and one recovery period, instead of three separate surgeries spread over a year or more.
The honest version of that sentence is: it is a bigger operation than any of its parts, and it is only the right choice if your body actually needs more than one of those parts. If your only problem is a little waist fat with firm skin, you do not need a mommy makeover — you need liposuction, or possibly nothing surgical at all. If your only problem is loose belly skin and a separated abdominal wall, a tummy tuck on its own may be the whole answer.
The rest of this article helps you work out which of those is you — and what to plan for if the combination is the right call.
What Pregnancy Actually Changes (and Why Exercise Can't Fix All of It)
Three separate things happen to a post-pregnancy body, and they need different solutions. This is the same distinction we explain in our liposuction vs. tummy tuck guide — it matters even more here, because a mommy makeover is the answer only when more than one of these is true at once:
- The abdominal wall separates and stretches. During pregnancy the two bands of abdominal muscle can separate and the connective sheath between them can stretch out. The result is a belly that pouches forward even when you are lean, and a core that feels weak and disconnected no matter how many crunches you do. This is diastasis recti. No exercise re-knits that sheath once it has separated significantly. Only a tummy tuck repairs it.
- Skin stretches and stays loose. Skin that has been stretched for nine months — twice, if you have had two children — often does not snap back, especially below the belly button. Liposuction cannot remove skin. Only a tummy tuck removes it.
- Breasts lose volume and lift. After pregnancy and breastfeeding, breasts commonly lose fullness in the upper part and sit lower than before. This is a volume and position problem, not a fat problem — and it is the one part of the makeover that belongs to the breast procedure, not to the tummy or the liposuction.
- Fat redistributes and stays put. The waist, flanks, thighs or upper arms hold on to stubborn pockets that do not respond to diet and exercise. This is the part liposuction is genuinely good at.
A mommy makeover exists because many mothers have two or three of these at the same time — and fixing them one at a time means three anaesthesias, three recoveries, and three rounds of arranging childcare. Done together, it is one bigger recovery instead of three smaller ones. That is the real trade-off, and it is worth understanding clearly before you decide.
What's Actually Included?
There is no single fixed "mommy makeover package." A responsible surgeon builds the combination from your body, not from a menu. The most common combination is:
1. Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) — the foundation
For most mothers this is the core of the makeover, because it is the only part that fixes the abdominal wall and removes loose skin. It is classified as a level-4 (highest-complexity) plastic surgery operation. The surgeon makes a low, horizontal incision hidden beneath underwear or swimwear, lifts the abdominal skin flap, folds the separated abdominal muscle sheath back toward the midline and sutures it to rebuild the tension and support of the abdominal wall, removes excess drooping skin and fat, re-drapes the remaining skin smoothly, and repositions the belly button as needed.

2. Breast lift, augmentation or reduction
After pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breast conversation is usually one of two things, or both: a lift (repositioning the breast and nipple higher, removing excess skin) and/or augmentation (restoring lost upper fullness). Some mothers also consider a reduction where the breasts remain large and heavy after breastfeeding. Which one you need depends entirely on how much volume you have lost versus how much the breast has dropped — and that is a surgeon's assessment, not something a photo online can tell you.
Our partner hospital's confirmed prices for the breast procedures:
| Breast procedure | Price range | Anaesthesia and hospital stay |
|---|---|---|
| Augmentation — fat grafting | ¥26,800–39,800 | General anaesthesia; 1 day in hospital |
| Augmentation — implants | ¥46,800–298,000 | Depends on the implant brand; general anaesthesia; 2–3 days in hospital; incision under the arm or around the areola |
| Reduction | ¥68,000–88,000 | Includes breast lift (suspension) and areola reconstruction; general anaesthesia; 2–3 days in hospital |
| Lift | ¥36,800–56,800 | General anaesthesia; 1–2 days in hospital |
For all breast procedures, stitches are removed on day 7 and recovery is around 10 days. The exact plan — including whether a lift, an augmentation, a reduction, or a combination is right for you — is decided in the surgeon's consultation, with a written, itemised quote before you commit to anything.
3. Liposuction — the finishing contour
Liposuction refines the areas the tummy tuck does not reach: the waist and flanks ("love handles"), the thighs, the upper arms, the back. It removes localised fat deposits through a few tiny incisions, a few millimetres each. It is a contouring procedure, not a weight-loss procedure — it works best at a stable weight, on specific stubborn pockets.
Common liposuction areas in a mommy makeover, with our partner hospital's confirmed price ranges:
| Area | Price range |
|---|---|
| Waist | ¥15,800–25,800 |
| Abdomen | ¥16,800–26,800 |
| Waist + abdomen (circumferential) | ¥28,000–39,800 |
| Thighs (circumferential) | ¥26,800–35,800 |
| Arms | ¥13,800–23,800 |
| Back | ¥16,800–26,800 |
Prices depend on technique (traditional vs. advanced) and whether tightening is included. Stitches are removed on day 7, and a compression garment is part of healing: 24 hours a day for the first 15 days, then 12 hours a day for the next 45 days — at least two months in total. For body liposuction, most people are back to normal work two days after discharge (heavy lifting excluded).
What Does a Mommy Makeover Cost in China?
Prices are where vague articles do their readers the most damage, so here is what we can state honestly — and what we will not guess at.
What we can confirm today:
- Tummy tuck (the foundation of most makeovers): ¥68,000–88,000. This is a range, not a flat package — the exact figure depends on your case. The range includes hospitalisation (generally at least 3 days), general anaesthesia, and follow-up visits. It does not include tightening treatments, scar treatment, or the compression garment. Swelling mostly subsides by 2 weeks after surgery; full recovery takes longer. Stitches are typically removed around day 10.
- Liposuction areas: the table above — each area priced separately by our partner hospital.
- Breast procedures: augmentation by fat grafting ¥26,800–39,800 (general anaesthesia, 1 day in hospital); augmentation by implants ¥46,800–298,000 depending on the implant brand (general anaesthesia, 2–3 days in hospital); reduction ¥68,000–88,000 including lift and areola reconstruction (general anaesthesia, 2–3 days in hospital); lift ¥36,800–56,800 (general anaesthesia, 1–2 days in hospital). For all breast procedures, stitches are removed on day 7 and recovery is around 10 days.
What we will not guess at:
- The total combination price. A mommy makeover is not automatically the sum of its three parts — whether the hospital prices the combination as a sum or as a discounted package is one of the questions still to be confirmed. Any article that gives you a single "mommy makeover price" without an assessment is guessing. We would rather give you a written, itemised quote after a free consultation than a neat number that turns out to be wrong.
What affects the total: which procedures are actually included (two or three?), the surgical technique chosen, the length of the operation, the hospital stay, and your own anatomy. That is why the honest price conversation starts with an assessment, not with a price list.
How Recovery Really Works — Especially With Small Children
This is the part that matters most, and the part most articles skip. A mommy makeover is one recovery, but it is the longest recovery of its parts — plan around the tummy tuck, not around the liposuction:
- The first 2 weeks are genuinely light duties. For a tummy tuck, plan on 2–4 weeks of light duties; swelling mostly subsides by 2 weeks, but full recovery takes longer. You will not be lifting, bending, or carrying much in the early days — and that includes a toddler.
- No lifting your child. This is the single hardest rule for mothers, and the single most important one. If your child still needs to be picked up, carried to bed, or lifted into a car seat, you need another adult doing that for the first couple of weeks at minimum. Arrange it before surgery, not after.
- You need a support system, not just willpower. A partner, a parent, a helper, a friend on call — someone who can handle the school run, the bath time, the night waking, and the lifting while you heal. Recovery is not a solo project. If you do not have that cover, it is better to wait until you do than to book surgery and hope.
- Stitches and garments: liposuction stitches come out on day 7; tummy tuck stitches typically around day 10. Compression garments are worn for weeks — the liposuction garment alone is at least two months (24 hours a day for the first 15 days, then 12 hours a day for the next 45 days).
- Breast procedures: stitches are removed on day 7, and recovery is around 10 days.
- General anaesthesia rules: no food or water for 12 hours before surgery, and surgery should be avoided during menstruation.
- Time off work: for body liposuction alone, most people are back to normal work two days after discharge (no heavy lifting). For a combination built around a tummy tuck, plan on the tummy tuck timeline — 2–4 weeks of light duties — and confirm your exact return-to-work date with your surgeon.
The honest question to ask yourself before booking: who will look after the children — including the lifting — for the first two weeks? If the answer is "I'll manage," that is the wrong answer. Get the help lined up first, then book.
Is a Mommy Makeover Right for You?
It is worth a conversation if:
- Your weight has been stable for several months.
- You have loose belly skin and/or a separated abdominal wall that exercise has not fixed.
- Your breasts have lost volume or lift after pregnancy and breastfeeding, and that bothers you.
- You have stubborn fat pockets that do not respond to diet and exercise.
- You are done having children — a future pregnancy would stretch the repaired abdominal wall and the breast result again, so surgeons generally advise waiting until your family is complete.
- You have real help lined up for the first two weeks of recovery.
It is probably not the right conversation yet if:
- Your weight is still changing significantly — get assessed, make a plan, and time the surgery for when your body has settled.
- You are still planning another pregnancy soon.
- Your concern is one small, pinchable fat pocket with firm, elastic skin — that is a liposuction conversation, not a combination.
- You have no childcare or lifting cover for recovery. Fix that first.
And if you are not sure: that is exactly what a free assessment is for. A surgeon looking at your actual body will tell you in minutes what an article cannot — which parts you need, which parts you do not, and whether a combination or a single procedure is the honest answer. Sometimes the honest answer is "you don't need surgery at all." That is a good outcome, not a wasted consultation.
How PA BEAUTY Helps
To be clear about what we do: PA BEAUTY does not perform surgery. We are an English-speaking beauty clinic in Beijing, and for surgery we do the part that is hardest to do alone in a foreign country — the consultation in clear English, the honest explanation of what each procedure can and cannot do, and the coordination with our partner hospital, where licensed surgeons perform the operation.
Here is what that looks like in practice:
- Free consultation and assessment. In plain English, with no pressure. We look at what has actually changed in your body, explain which procedures address which problem, and tell you honestly if surgery is not the right answer.
- A written, itemised quote from the partner hospital — including how the combination is priced — before you commit to anything. No vague totals, no surprise additions.
- Coordination in English throughout — the hospital choice, the pre-surgery preparation, the recovery plan, and the follow-up visits.
- A recovery plan that fits a mother's life — including the childcare and no-lifting question, planned before surgery rather than discovered after it.
If you are thinking about a mommy makeover — or if you are not sure whether you need one at all — message us. Tell us what bothers you most, and when you would like to come in. We will give you an honest answer, and if the combination is right for you, a confirmed quote with every part priced, not guessed.
FAQ
What is included in a mommy makeover? Most commonly a tummy tuck, a breast lift and/or augmentation, and liposuction of areas like the waist or thighs — planned together as one operation. There is no fixed package: the combination is built from your body, and the exact plan is decided with your surgeon.
How much does a mommy makeover cost in China? It depends on which procedures are included. What we can confirm today: a tummy tuck is ¥68,000–88,000 (including hospitalisation of generally at least 3 days, general anaesthesia and follow-up visits; excluding tightening, scar treatment and compression garment), liposuction is priced per area (see the table above), and the breast procedures are priced as listed above — augmentation by fat grafting ¥26,800–39,800, implants ¥46,800–298,000, reduction ¥68,000–88,000, lift ¥36,800–56,800. The total combination price is not yet confirmed by our partner hospital — whether it is the sum of the parts or a discounted package — so we will provide a written, itemised quote after a free assessment rather than guess.
Is it one operation or several? The idea of a mommy makeover is one operation, one anaesthesia and one recovery period instead of three separate surgeries. The exact anaesthesia plan, total hospital stay and recovery timeline for the combination are confirmed with the surgeon during consultation.
How long is recovery, really? Plan around the tummy tuck, the longest part: 2–4 weeks of light duties, swelling mostly subsiding by 2 weeks, full recovery taking longer. Liposuction stitches come out on day 7, tummy tuck stitches around day 10. Compression garments are worn for weeks. The hardest rule for mothers: no lifting your child in the early weeks — arrange help before surgery.
Can I have a mommy makeover if I plan to have another baby? Surgeons generally advise waiting until your family is complete, because a future pregnancy would stretch the repaired abdominal wall and the breast result again. If you are still planning another pregnancy, get assessed and make a plan — but time the surgery for after.
Is a mommy makeover safe? It is a bigger operation than any single procedure in it, because it combines them — a tummy tuck alone is classified as a level-4 (highest-complexity) plastic surgery operation. That is why surgeon screening, the hospital's standards, and honest pre-surgery assessment matter so much. A responsible clinic will tell you if the combination is more than you need — and will say no when surgery is not the right answer.
Do I need to do anything to prepare? Be at a stable weight, and do not eat or drink for 12 hours before general anaesthesia; avoid scheduling surgery during menstruation. Most importantly, arrange your support system — someone to handle childcare and all lifting — for the first two weeks after surgery.
I am not sure I need all three procedures. Is that normal? Completely normal — and the most common outcome of a consultation. Many mothers need only one or two of the three. A free assessment exists precisely to work that out, and "you don't need the full combination" is a perfectly good answer.
PA BEAUTY does not perform surgery. We provide English consultation and coordination; surgery is performed by licensed surgeons at our partner hospital. Prices stated here are the partner hospital's confirmed prices; the total combination price is to be confirmed (sum of the parts or a discounted package) and will be quoted in writing after assessment.
